One extremely important thing to know about Canada is that it's diverse, ranging from its climate to its political structure.

Canada is a federal state
  • Canada is comprised of 10 provinces and 3 territories.
  • In Canada, there are 3 levels of government: federal, provincial/territorial, and municipal.
  • Each province and territory has extensive powers to manage local affairs, including setting taxes, laws, and rules. For instance, traffic regulations may vary from one province to another. Each municipality has the authority to establish its own rules.
Canada is a politically diverse nation
  • Canada is a Dominion of the United Kingdom, with King Charles III as the head of state. The representatives of the Crown in the country are the General Governor in the capital and Lieutenant Governors, one for each province.
  • The executive authority is vested in Parliament, led by the Prime Minister, who is the leader of the party with the majority in Parliament. At present, that is Justin Trudeau, the leader of the Liberal Party.
  • Each province has its own parliament. Territories are subject to the federal government and are governed by Commissioners, delegates of the federal Crown-in-Council.
  • Provincial political parties are entirely independent of federal political entities.
Canada is a land of cultural diversity
  • Canada is a country of immigrants. Apart from the First Nations, all others are newcomers. It's like a salad bowl, where each nationality adds its own colors and flavors to the cultural palette.
  • The country has two official languages: English and French. English is the primary language in 11 regions, except for Quebec, where French is the primary language, and New Brunswick, where there are two official languages. In British Columbia, for example, the second most frequently used language is Mandarin, and the third is Punjabi.
Canada is all about tolerance
  • In Canada, any form of discrimination based on racial, national, gender, political, religious, and other parameters is prohibited.
  • Canada permits same-sex marriages, and LGBT+ acceptance is the norm.
Canada is all about diverse lifestyles
  • The majority of the population is concentrated along the U.S. border. The three most populous provinces are Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia.
  • In Canada, you find cities with millions of residents and cities with just 1,000 people. Many people live in the countryside, on farms or estates. Yet, the level of household services won't be drastically different in a big city compared to a rural farm.
  • The natural diversity allows for living in mountains, prairies, along rivers, lakes, or oceans. Or in the forest – in the middle of nowhere.
  • The beauty of Canada is that you can find a place that perfectly aligns with your lifestyle preferences: climate, landscape, and population density, all tailored to your liking.
We can keep providing examples of diversity, such as the choices in the field of education, ranging from homeschooling to private schools. Therefore, when you come across a post on social media about Canada, remember that the person is expressing their personal opinion based on their own experience, place of residence, and surroundings. If someone claims that in Canada, things are one way or another, there's a high likelihood that someone else will have the opposite opinion about it.
In our project, we have tried to account for this factor: the information we provide is based on official sources. All articles in the main directory are written "generally for Canada" to give you a broad understanding of how life is organized in the country. We plan to add regional pages in the future, but for now, our goal is to cover the essential questions.
When using the website, please keep in mind:
  • We strive to approach information as objectively as possible, but we can't completely eliminate personal influence.
  • Because we live in a rapidly changing world, keeping track of all changes and updating content in a timely manner can be challenging. That's why we provide links where you can access the most up-to-date data.
  • We take the responsibility of choosing partners and sources of information other than official ones seriously. However, we can't guarantee or control the quality of third-party services. You can always report issues to us.
  • All information is collected and provided for your use. We are not responsible for the actions of third parties, nor for how you use this information.
  • All articles and other content in this project are the project's intellectual property. We appreciate it if you share the information, just remember to cite the source.
  • If you find an error in an article or have feedback and suggestions, we are happy to listen.
Our project is a volunteer effort. We generously share our experience and information to help you learn about and understand Canada, ease your adaptation, and shorten your path to success. If you want to be part of the project, let us know; we'd be happy to have you.
